I don't think it's accurate to say there's a backlash against movies that are not male-centered. A few of the examples you showed at at13:19 are remakes of classic movies/characters and the backlash was about the unoriginality of Hollywood and the alteration of characters we know. I saw Ghostbusters 2016 and although I enjoyed it and had many laughs, I was just as much annoyed to see the character's personalities and the gist of the story were lifted from the original. There's been a lot of female-centered movies made in the last 20 to 30 years and people didn't object to original stories with original female characters.

You've articulated why I liked So Iʼm a Spider, So What? (2015/2022) by Okina Baba. The protagonist, Kumoko, ultimately learns they must become the villain to destroy humanity which has become corrupted beyond redemption in order to preserve her planetʼs habitability for herself, a spider, and other non-human people that understand the existential crisis. In order to improve society, one must become a villain of old society. 20:03: The trend that superheroes are usually puppeted by writers to fight megalomaniacal villains is as simple (in the derogatory sense) as the pattern in isekai stories where the Hero almost always ends up saving young nubile damsels in distress who reliably volunteer to enslave themselves to them until the harem count grows beyond that required to cover the typical waifu stereotypes without repeating. (e.g. tsundere, kuudere, tomboy, ojousama, childhood friend, yandere, dandere, glasses, genki, loli, big sister, brat, deredere) You are immature if you have not discovered that all stories are rhetorical exercises to convince you to do something (usually to buy something, especially merchandise featuring waifus such as music, video streaming subscriptions, etc.; high quality stories teach you empathy and ethics which, in my opinion, is the ability to identify and navigate other people's stories).

Maybe this trope is why I'm always overly paranoid and cover myself with a screen or wardrobe door or anything inside already closed room and cannot find peace in a changing room that doesn't have a full coverage real door, or even the ones that do actually.

Perhaps it's just my interpretation but I always believed, in the prequels especially, that they framed the Jedi's dogmatic beliefs as the underlying problem, rather than implying their belief in emotional suppression was the correct course to follow. I always felt as if it wasn't Anakin's fear of loss that truly turned him to the dark side but the lack of emotional support he received prior to his mother's death that turned him. If he had a support system that wouldn't have shamed him for acting on his emotions, he would've been able to leave without fear of judgment and probably save his mother, which would've prevented him from having a traumatic fear of loss instilled within himself that would later lead to the desperate measures he'd go to to (unsuccessfully) save Padme. In fact, if he had been allowed to actually form relationships under the Jedi Order, he would've been able to voice his concerns for her well being rather than being forced to bottle it up inside him. Even in the OT, it's the love Vader has for Luke that allows him to break free from the grip of the dark side and defeat the Emperor and Luke's denial of Yoda and Obi Wan's teachings lead him down the path to redeem Vader and save the galaxy. In summary, while it may get muddled, as almost all deeper messages tend to in Star Wars, what I took from it was that it's unhealthy to deny your emotions. Edit: Guess I should've waited a little longer to comment, it appears we're actually on the same page. Edit 2: Guess I spoke too soon again, we had all the same information but I believe you came to a wildly incorrect conclusion, that somehow George Lucas believed in what the Jedi pushed when even you yourself said that the conclusion of the story actually argued against that and presented Luke's willingness to embrace his emotions as the correct path to take.

I love V for Vendetta, both the comic and the movie. I love V as a protagonist. I *don't* like how much more the movie romanticized him though - he's not and should not be seen as a good guy. The movie sanitized him a lot. Evey was originally a 13 year old girl and her infatuation with him should be seen as some sort of combination of stockholm syndrome and a kid without any parental figures in her life latching onto the first one who shows her any real concern. It's a great commentary on the abduction/abuse trope.... if it had been portrayed more in line with the source material.

I agree with Ken pre-patriarchy discovery behavior being confusing at first, but maybe it is trying to portrait this: Those human reactions/feelings of insecurity, jealousy, fear of vulnerability that Ken presents as a man, were materialized in Patriarchy (and horses) when he came to know about it. Ken chooses to canalize this human feelings/reactions in Patriarchy as his catarsis. Other men may had choose other ways… I mean, “fighting” is a part of patriarchy but also not, Fighting is no Patriarchy…or maybe I’m confused 😅 great video BTW I like this channel a lot.

Another thing is, because crying and being overly emotional is a negative stereotype for women, some women (not specifically in media) fall into the trap of never crying outside of the permissable window because they don't want to be seen as weak.

Even our courts reinforce that female teachers assaulting male students is OK by giving blatantly more lenient sentences for the same crime. Importantly the FBI study that revealed teenage boys that are sexually taken advantage of have the same psychological problems to the same intensity as teenage girls who were taken advantage of.

There is something you say, that actually shows us the limits of feminism, as a reply to the current state of society: the fact that "man" is default, and its experiences are exemplary of the human condition, and "woman" isn't, and therefore the films are about the female or femenine condition specifically, is why feminism cannot abolish the current system. Feminism takes the same ordering of society, and simply reflects it unto the content of that very society as inverted: there is no proper subversion threre. The subversion requires a proper understanding of the root causes of the social division of labor between men and women, who are constituted as such by that process. Those root causes have to be abolished, and thereofre the very foundations of men and women will cease to exist.

Your essays are always fantastic dude, but as a woman, this one in particular struck a chord with me and made me feel amazing! Your conclusion is so accurate, that it almost seems incredible that it is not an idea that is more present in society today. However, it is refreshing to know that there are people like you, who are making all of this visible through the presentation of very well researched information and well given observations. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

basically stop bitching and crying over everything and every time things go bad, because sometimes crying is a waste of time and doesn't solve anything, men can cry, but don't start balling every time something goes bad for example if you drop your coffee, or if you got fired from your job.
